Origin: Nigeria

  • 2-5gr/200ml
  • 95°C
  • 2-3 min infuse

This pure hibiscus produces a beautiful, intense red infusion, a delight just by its color. The high concentration of fruit acids produces a refreshing infusion, which can be drunk hot and cold. The fresh sour, fruity taste is often compared to the taste of cranberries. It may be reminiscent of those very sour red sweets that we ate as children, but have now become too dangerous to snack on (smoelentrekkers).

Hibiscus infusion is especially popular as a daily drink in hot areas. Dried Hibiscus has been used in the medicine of those tropical countries for centuries against high blood pressure. In the Western world, dried Hibiscus has long been known for its taste, but not yet for its medicinal properties.

Some Tips

This tea is very refreshing as cold iced tea in the summer. You can possibly add some honey or other sweeteners to soften the sour taste. To finish, add a lime and some dried red fruits. A delight for the eye and for the tongue!
